FAQs

Getting Started

  • We install a robotic mower at your home, custom-mapped to your lawn and set to maintain your grass on a smart schedule. Our team monitors performance remotely and visits periodically for weed-whacking and mower tune-ups as needed (PlanetMow Visits). You get a perpetually mowed lawn.

  • Just trim your grass to 4 inches or less, clear major debris, and identify outdoor outlets. We also need access to your wireless network (guest network is fine) and a space for our droid’s garage - generally 4 ft x 6 ft. Our Robot Mechanic will handle setup, mapping, and calibration.

  • PlanetMow is built for continuous care. One-time mows aren’t currently offered, but you may opt out of your annual or multi-year subscription within the first 30 days if you are not satisfied with our service.

  • During PlanetMow Visits, our Robot Mechanics set up, inspect, service, and replace droids as needed. We also weed-whack in those hard-to-reach places that our droids struggle to mow. These PlanetMow Visits ensure peak performance and a lawn that always looks its best.

  • You’ll get a notification via email and text with the date, time window, and purpose of the PlanetMow Visit.

Living With A Robot

  • Keep your yard tidy and let us know if our robot mower has any problems. We’ll alert you before any PlanetMow Visit — our robot mower handles the rest.

  • You will press the manual stop button or contact us to reorganize your mowing schedule. You are always in control.

  • Let us know, and we’ll update the robot mower’s map during a PlanetMow Visit to avoid obstacles like picnic tables, new flower beds, or soccer goals.

  • Your Robot Mechanic will set a visit schedule during installation, tailored to your lawn’s needs. Most properties receive a PlanetMow Visit every 1–4 weeks, with adjustments as we learn your yard’s rhythm or as the season changes. Some lawns may need regular weed-whacking — others won’t. Either way, we’ll keep things tidy and transparent.

  • Anything you want. PlanetMow gives you weekends back—whether that’s for family, hobbies, or simply relaxing.

  • Yes. Traditional mowing kicks up grass clippings, pollen, and dust — especially when done quickly or in dry conditions. Our robot mowers mow more frequently and gently, trimming just a few millimeters at a time. This reduces airborne allergens and keeps your lawn healthier with less disruption. It’s a quieter, cleaner way to maintain your yard, ideal for allergy-sensitive households.

Lawn Health & Eco Impact

  • Frequent, gentle cuts promote healthier turf. PlanetMow follows the ⅓ rule, reducing stress and naturally mulching clippings for better soil.

Traditional mowing rarely follows the ⅓ rule. It follows an overgrown-then-chopped schedule that’s convenient for humans, but bad for your lawn.

  • Never cut more than one-third of the grass blade at a time. It keeps your lawn lush, resilient, and moisture-retentive.

  • Traditional gas-powered mowers emit more pollution per hour than a car, guzzle fossil fuels, and roar at noise levels that disrupt neighborhoods. PlanetMow’s electric mowers produce zero emissions, use minimal energy, and operate so quietly you’ll forget they’re working. It’s cleaner, quieter, and radically better for your lawn — and the planet.

  • A full month of mowing uses about the same amount of electricity as a single LED light bulb. That typically adds up to less than a dollar a month on your utility bill.

Robot Mower Behavior & Technology

  • Very. Our robotic mowers operate at under 60 decibels, about the same as a conversation. That means no roaring engines, no weekend wake-ups, and no disruption to your family, pets, or neighbors. You can sip coffee, take calls, or let the kids play while the robot mower quietly gets the job done.

  • Our robot mower automatically pauses during rain and returns to its garage. It will restart mowing approximately three hours after it detected rain. It’s weather-aware and built to protect your lawn.

  • Advanced sensors detect and steer around objects in real time. If a child or pet suddenly crosses its path, the robot mower stops instantly and reroutes safely. For fixed features like flower beds, pavers, or sidewalks, we create precise no-mow zones in your lawn’s digital map.

  • Let us know first. Relocating may require a PlanetMow Mechanic to remap your lawn.

  • Several times per week, depending on grass growth and season. It trims lightly and often for optimal health.

  • In the early days, while we fine-tune your lawn’s map, the robot mower may occasionally get stuck. You’ll receive a notification and can either assist manually or contact us. If the issue persists, a PlanetMow Mechanic will visit to adjust the map and resolve it permanently. Most yards settle into smooth operation quickly — and we’re always here to help.

  • During setup, we map virtual mowing zones — no underground wires — including “mow” and “no-mow” zones to keep the robot mower out of sensitive areas.

  • Yes, our robot mowers create stripes when mowing. The stripes are narrower than traditional lawnmowers. It will alternate stripe directions from one mow to another to ensure a clean, healthy cut.

  • We can schedule mowing to avoid playtime. The robot mower also reroutes when people are nearby.

  • We deploy best-in-class electric mowers tailored to your lawn’s size and terrain. All are quiet, efficient, and smart. We currently deploy the ECOVACS A3000 GOAT LiDAR Robot Lawn Mower and the eufy Robot Lawn Mower E18.

  • Generally, yes. We match your lawn with the right robot mower for your terrain. The ECOVACS GOAT G1-3000 is engineered to tackle significant slopes, boasting a maximum incline capability of 50%, which is equivalent to a 27-degree angle. The eufy e18 is designed for more moderate slopes. This model can handle a maximum incline of 40%, or an 18-degree angle.

Safety

  • Yes. The robot mower has motion sensors and stops if pets approach. We have two dogs, and they play regularly outside while our robot mower is mowing. We can also schedule mowing when pets are indoors.

  • Advanced sensors detect and steer around objects in real time. If a child or person suddenly crosses its path, the robot mower stops instantly and reroutes safely. For fixed features like flower beds, pavers, or sidewalks, we create precise no-mow zones in your lawn’s digital map. Our robot mowers have soft bumpers that minimize impact if contact occurs.

  • Our robot mowers are equipped with anti-lift sensors that instantly shut down the blades if they are picked up or tilted. This protects children and adults with curious hands and rambunctious pets who can’t help but jump on things. The robot mower also sends a real-time alert to our monitoring system and will give a verbal warning for the person tilting or lifting the mower.

  • Every PlanetMow mower is protected by GPS tracking, remote lockouts, tamper alerts, child lock and app-based controls to prevent unauthorized use.

  • If the damage wasn’t caused by you, we’ll repair or replace the robot mower at no cost.

If the damage was due to misuse or neglect, you’ll be responsible for the repair or replacement — but we keep costs fair and transparent. Our goal isn’t to nickel-and-dime you — we’re here to build long-term relationships, not short-term invoices.

  • You don’t own the mower — we do. Unless you stole it or helped someone steal it, we’ll replace it. No hassle and no hidden fees.

Pricing & Ownership

  • Plans start at $165.00 per month and a one-time setup fee of $100.00 for the smallest lots. Both fees grow with lawn size. All plans include setup, PlanetMow Visits, weed-whacking, parts, and ongoing support.

  • We charge a one-time setup fee based on your property’s lot size that starts at $100. We do not charge an upfront fee for the robot mower. We own it; it just lives at your property.

  • They require more weed-whacking time and larger or even multiple robot mowers. Our pricing reflects the care your lawn deserves.

  • If you are moving within our service area, we will relocate your robot mower and set up your service at your new home. We will rework your PlanetMow subscription agreement as needed for your new property size.

If you are moving outside of our service area, you may (a) have the new owner takeover the subscription, or (b) you may execute the early termination clause and pay the one-time buyout fee in your PlanetMow subscription agreement.

Seasonal Maintenance

  • We handle all maintenance, updates, and repairs as part of the PlanetMow subscription.

  • As part of a PlanetMow visit and included in your PlanetMow subscription, our PlanetMow Mechanic will trim hard-to-reach places in your yard if necessary. We use a battery-driven, eco-friendly weed-whacker.

  • We pause our PlanetMow Visits and retrieve the robot mower for off-season maintenance. We will start again when the weather breaks in the new year.
